Iran has launched a retaliatory attack against the United States, firing at least 10 missiles at American military bases in Qatar and Iraq, following US airstrikes on three of its nuclear facilities.
According to Israeli officials, Iran targeted US bases in Qatar with multiple missiles, while at least one missile was launched toward a US position in Iraq. Qatar, which hosts the largest American military presence in the Middle East, is home to over 8,000 US troops stationed at the Al Udeid Air Base near Doha.
Explosions were reported over Doha, the Qatari capital, as confirmed by both Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Reuters.
Iran’s missile response, named Blessings of Victory, marks a significant escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington.
A senior White House official told Al-Monitor, “The White House and the Department of Defense are aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.”
There are no confirmed reports yet on casualties resulting from the strikes.
This marks Iran’s second-largest direct assault on US targets, surpassed only by its 2020 missile response to the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Gen. Qasem Soleimani.
The missile launches come just a day after the US formally entered the Israel-Iran conflict. President Donald Trump authorised coordinated strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. In response, Tehran warned that the strikes “crossed a big red line” and promised swift retaliation.
